Abstract:
laying plastic mulch manually on a farm is difficult and time consuming. in order to minimize human effort and increase efficiency, plastic mulch laying machines are used. The purpose of this study was to evaluating of a common tractor-mounted plastic laying machine. The laying machine was evaluated at three different speeds of operation (3, 5 and 7 km/h), two different working width (50 and 70 cm) and three different thicknesses of plastic (40, 30 and 15 µ). The effect ofstudy treatments on field capacity, field efficiency, quality of work, plastic rupture and fuel consumption rate were studied. The results showed that the maximum field efficiency (71.72%) was found at plastic thickness 30 µ, working width 70 cm and speed of operation 7 km/h and the minimum field efficiency was 45.63% at plastic thickness 40 µ, working width 70 cm and speed of operation 7 km/h. Plastic thickness, working width andspeed of operation had a significant effect on field capacity. The maximum field capacity (0.575 ha/h) was obtained at plastic thickness 30 µ, working width of 70 cm and speed of operation 7 km/h. Working speed and plastic thickness affected fuel consumption and maximum fuel consumption (418.5 cc) was related to plastic thickness 15 µ and speed of operation 7 km/h. The highest number of rupture (7.5) was related to the plastic thickness and speed of operation 15 µ and 7 km/h respectively. The optimum valuesof plastic thickness andspeeds of operation were found to be 30 µ and 5 km/h, respectively.
