Evaluation of wind energy potential in Aligudarz county

Abstract:
The limitation of fossil fuels resources and environmental impacts caused by burning of fossil fuels, have increased the importance of using renewable energies, including wind energy. The present study was conducted to evaluate the wind energy potential in Aligudarz county of using daily and hourly data on wind direction and speed for a period of 8 years (2010-2018). WRplot software was used to draw Golbad. The results showed, that the average annual wind speed at altitudes of 10, 30 and 50 m above the ground in the study station were 3.98, 4.96 and 5.50 m/s, respectively. Also, the average wind power density at the above altitudes were calculated to be 64.77, 125.21 and 170.11 w/m2, respectively. Average rating for extracting the maximum wind speed (Vmp) at the studied stations at altitude of 10 m was about 6.66 m/s. The dominant wind direction in the region belonged to the direction of southeast. The results showed that there is no suitable potential for using of wind energy in Aligudarz county.
